A devastating house fire in a Kent village has claimed the life of a child and left another requiring hospital treatment, emergency services have confirmed.
Emergency Response to Intense Blaze
The incident occurred on Sunday at a property on White Admiral Way in Hamstreet, a village situated near Ashford. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) was called to the scene shortly after 12.10pm.
Firefighters were confronted with an intense fire that had already spread throughout the semi-detached house. To combat the flames, the service deployed a significant response, including six fire engines and a height vehicle.
Tragic Outcome and Ongoing Efforts
A KFRS spokesperson delivered the sombre news: "Sadly, one child died at the scene and another has been taken to hospital." The condition of the hospitalised child has not been disclosed.
As of the latest updates, two fire crews remain at the location to dampen down the remnants of the fire. They are being supported by a volunteer response team. An investigation into the cause of the fire is now ongoing.

Ann Millington, Chief Executive of KFRS, expressed the service's profound sympathy: "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone affected by this tragic incident, especially the child's loved ones. We understand this will be a distressing time for the local community and support is available at a welfare hub set up at Hamstreet village hall."
During the incident, residents and travellers in the area were advised to close windows and doors due to heavy smoke. This safety advice has since been lifted.
