Two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the tragic death of a pensioner in Cheltenham, after a heated confrontation that originated from an incident on the Millennium Bridge. The man, aged in his 70s, succumbed to injuries sustained when he was punched in the face during an altercation with the suspects.

The sequence of events began on Wednesday evening at approximately 7:30pm, when police were alerted to an incident involving three males. According to a spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Police, two males were reported to have been on the Millennium Bridge, where they threw a large branch at a cyclist travelling on the road below. Fortunately, the cyclist is not believed to have been injured in this initial act.
Confrontation and Assault
Following this, the two males left the bridge and were approached by the victim, a man in his 70s, on Honeybourne Way. An exchange ensued between them, which escalated when one of the males punched the pensioner in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspects then fled the scene before officers could arrive.
Emergency services attended promptly, and the victim was transported to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. He had been in a critical condition and, sadly, died earlier today. His next of kin and the coroner have been informed, as confirmed by the police force.
