Baby and Woman in Hospital After M50 Crash, Arrest Made

A newborn baby and a woman were rushed to hospital following a serious motorway crash on the M50 this morning, with a 37-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Crash Details

At approximately 6:15am, a Peugeot 308 collided with the nearside barrier between Junctions 1 and 2 of the M50, near the border of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. The vehicle then flipped onto its roof, causing significant damage to the barrier.

The driver, a woman in her 30s, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. An eight-day-old baby was also transported to Birmingham Children's Hospital, located about 50 miles away from the crash scene. The severity of their injuries remains unknown, and it is not yet clear if the two individuals are related.

Arrest and Investigation

A 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for witnesses.

Traffic Disruption

The crash caused major delays for motorists, with the entire eastbound side of the M50 shut between Junction Two (Ledbury) and Junction One (Twyning). The westbound side was temporarily stopped but later reopened. National Highways confirmed that one lane remained closed throughout the day due to barrier damage.
