An 18-year-old, Brailen Weaver, has been arrested and charged with armed bank robbery and firearms offenses causing death after allegedly killing two people during a bank robbery in Berea, Kentucky.
Weaver entered a U.S. Bank branch on Thursday just before 2 p.m., immediately shooting and killing a male victim, then fatally shooting a teller before fleeing the scene, police say.
Authorities identified Weaver by matching surveillance video of a silver BMW and the suspect's clothing to photos and a car for sale on his social media pages, which he continued to update after the robbery.
The FBI located Weaver's car on I-75, leading to a high-speed pursuit exceeding 100 mph, which ended when he crashed the vehicle in Lexington and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended.
The incident, which led to school lockdowns in the area, is considered rare as federal prosecutors noted they could not recall a death related to a bank robbery in 18 years, and national bank robbery deaths have been uncommon recently.
