Two men are facing murder charges in a case that has horrified a local community, following the death of an 18-year-old in what is believed to be a drug-related incident.
Matthew Mason, 20, of Ash Lane, Ollerton, and a 17-year-old male who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been formally charged by detectives from Cheshire Police. The charges are connected to the death of Alex Rodda, from Knutsford, whose body was discovered on Friday, December 13th.
In a significant development, Mason is also facing charges for allegedly intending to pervert the course of justice. Both accused have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court.
The investigation, which is being led by Cheshire's Major Investigation Team, was launched after emergency services were called to a rural location in Ashley, Cheshire. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr. Rodda was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Blackwell, the senior investigating officer, stated: "This is a tragic case of a young man who has lost his life. Our thoughts remain with Alex's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. They are being supported by specialist officers."
The police have confirmed that all parties involved were known to each other, and they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the death at this time. The case highlights the ongoing and devastating impact of drug-related violence on communities across the UK.
