A 43-year-old woman has been formally charged with attempted murder following a disturbing incident in Queensland, where she allegedly poisoned both herself and a 10-year-old girl known to her. The Queensland Police Service asserts that the attempted murder, classified as a domestic violence offence, occurred on March 12 in the suburb of Yarrabilba, located south of Brisbane.
Alleged Poisoning Incident and Hospitalisation
According to police allegations, the woman ingested a poisonous substance and administered it to the young girl, resulting in both individuals becoming severely ill and experiencing vomiting. Authorities were notified of the incident several days later on March 16, prompting an immediate response. Both the woman and the child were urgently transported to Logan Hospital for medical treatment.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Detectives initiated Operation Yankee Streethawk to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged poisoning. The 10-year-old girl was discharged from the hospital on the same day as her admission, while the 43-year-old woman remained under medical care until her release into police custody on Friday. Following her release, she was charged with one count of attempted murder, specifically noted as a domestic violence offence.
The woman has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear before the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 12 for further legal proceedings. Police have emphasised the seriousness of the charges and the ongoing nature of the investigation.
