A trusted maths tutor who systematically preyed on a vulnerable 15-year-old girl has been handed a substantial prison sentence for his depraved and calculating abuse.
Robert Huber, 36, of Stanwell, Surrey, was sentenced to 11 years behind bars at Guildford Crown Court after being convicted of a string of sexual offences against his young victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The court heard how Huber, who operated under the tutoring company Lindy Lucena, brazenly exploited his position of trust to manipulate and abuse the teenager over a period of time. His crimes only came to light after the brave victim confided in a family member.
A Gross Breach of Trust
Passing sentence, Judge Jonathan Black described Huber's actions as a "gross breach of the trust placed in you as a tutor". He highlighted the profound and lasting psychological impact the abuse has had on the young victim, whose life has been severely disrupted.
The judge noted that Huber had shown no remorse for his actions, having forced the victim to endure the trauma of a trial where she had to relive her horrific ordeal.
Bringing a Predator to Justice
Investigating officer Detective Constable Natalie Mowatt of Surrey Police praised the immense courage shown by the victim and her family throughout the investigation and court process.
"Huber was in a position of trust which he abused in the worst way possible," DC Mowatt stated. "I would like to thank the victim for her incredible bravery in supporting this investigation and helping to ensure Huber was brought to justice for his crimes."
Huber was found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of causing a child to engage in sexual activity. In addition to his 11-year custodial sentence, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
