Tragic Death at Olive Garden Restaurant in Pennsylvania
A restaurant worker has died in a horrific incident after diving headfirst into a deep fryer at an Olive Garden location in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The shocking event occurred last Friday afternoon, leaving colleagues traumatised and emergency responders visibly shaken, as revealed in newly released audio recordings.
Emergency Call Captures Horror of the Scene
In a chilling radio message from Lycoming County Fire and EMS, dated January 30, a dispatcher can be heard struggling to relay the details. The recording states: "A male victim went head-first into the … fryers." After a long pause, the dispatcher adds, "I don't have a lot of details … lot of people screaming, some kind of a burn victim." This harrowing account underscores the chaos and distress witnessed by staff at the scene.
Pennsylvania State Police have confirmed the incident, categorising it as a suicide attempt. Police officer Lauren Lesher emphasised respect for the victim and their family, stating, "This incident was a suicide attempt, and out of respect for the individual and their family, we do not release information." The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly stripped inside the kitchen before plunging into the vat of hot oil.
Aftermath and Injuries Among Colleagues
Attempts to rescue the man from the fryer resulted in additional injuries. A female employee sustained minor burns during the desperate efforts to extract him. Despite being rushed to hospital, the man was later pronounced dead. The restaurant was closed for several days following the tragedy but has since reopened to the public.
This incident follows another recent workplace death, where a mother-of-two was found dead in a freezer at a Dollar Tree in Miami in December 2025. Helen Massiell Garay Sanchez's body was discovered in a restricted employee area, with officials ruling out foul play. Her family has since filed a $50 million lawsuit, alleging negligence by store management.
