A body has been recovered in the search for a man who went missing while hiking in the Scottish Highlands. The family of 36-year-old Adam Chalmers have been informed after the body was found in the An Stac area at around 1.25pm on Sunday.
Mr Chalmers was last heard from at 12.40pm on Saturday in the Ben Lawers mountain range. He had planned to scale the Meall Greigh, Meall Garbh, and An Stuc munros, and in his last message he said he had one left to complete. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Adam's family thanked Police Scotland, Tayside Mountain Rescue, RAF Mountain Rescue and all the agencies involved in the searches. Police had issued an appeal for information during the search, describing him as white, 5ft 11in, of stocky build, and bald with a medium-length brown beard. He was wearing a green and blue triangle-patterned fleece, a grey and black waterproof jacket, green walking trousers, a blue cap and brown boots, while carrying a rucksack with orange elastic ties.
Inspector Iain Gillies said during the search: “We are appealing for anyone with any information on Adam’s whereabouts to come forward as soon as possible. We are particularly keen to speak with any fellow hillwalkers who were in the Lawers area on Saturday and may have seen Adam or knows anything which could help pinpoint his location and route.”
A separate search continues for another missing hillwalker, Timothy Rosser, 60, from the United States, who is believed to have been out hillwalking in Glencoe. He hasn’t been seen since leaving his hotel in Edinburgh in his black MG hire car (LE75 FNO) on Tuesday morning. The car was spotted in Glencoe that same day. He is described as white, around 6ft 2 and slim build, with short white hair. Sergeant Lewis Macleod said: “Timothy has failed to check in to his pre-booked hotels in the area and it is out-of-character to not be in touch with his family.”
