Ex-Partner Strangles and Bites Pregnant Woman After Prison Release
A pregnant woman was brutally attacked by her jealous ex-partner, who strangled and bit her in a violent outburst after being released from prison. Kieran Walton, 35, had served time last year for assaulting the same victim but returned to her home in a desperate attempt to rekindle their romance.
Violent Confrontation Erupts Over Accusations
On January 18 this year, Walton arrived at the woman's residence and immediately launched into an argument, accusing her of seeing other men during his incarceration. The situation escalated when he began taunting and demeaning her, leading to a physical altercation after she revealed she was recording his verbal abuse.
Walton pushed the victim over a sofa, then sank his teeth into her back, leaving visible bite marks. He followed this by striking her in the face and grabbing her by the throat, restricting her breathing for several seconds. The woman, who was 16 weeks pregnant at the time, sustained cuts, bruises, and a distinct bite mark as a result of the assault.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
The case was heard at Newcastle Crown Court, where prosecutor Rachel Kelly detailed the events. Walton admitted to occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation, leading to a 21-month prison sentence. Recorder Paul Reid emphasized the severity of strangulation, noting that even momentary acts can cause terror and potentially lead to unconsciousness or death.
Walton, who has 20 previous convictions and was jailed for seven weeks in October last year for attacking the same woman, was described by his defense lawyer, Ian Hudson, as dealing with mental health issues but having a good work ethic.
