Murder Inquiry After Man's Body Found at Peak District Stone Circle

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a 26-year-old man whose body was found at the Nine Ladies Stone Circle in the Peak District. Derbyshire police were called to the site in Stanton Lees at 1:38 pm on Monday, June 22, after reports of a man's body being discovered. Emergency services attended, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Victim Yet to Be Formally Identified

The man has not yet been formally identified, but his family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is underway, led by Detective Inspector Tony Owen from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU).

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Inspector Tony Owen stated: "We know that there have been a lot of people in the area of Nine Ladies Stone Circle over the weekend celebrating the summer solstice and this incident will undoubtedly be shocking and distressing to those who were present, as well as the wider community." He urged anyone who was at the site over the weekend to come forward, adding: "We know people have been coming and going from the area over the course of the weekend so it is vital that anyone who was in attendance at any point over the weekend speaks to officers."

Increased Police Presence

Officers are keen to hear from anyone with relevant information, including those with dashcam footage from the area. Detective Inspector Owen assured the public: "We know that this will be of concern to people however and there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days so I'd urge anyone with any concerns to please speak to an officer."
