Authorities are set to commence a major new operation in the desperate hunt for four-year-old Gus Lamont, who vanished from a remote homestead nearly two months ago.
Intensive New Search Operation
From Tuesday, 25 November 2025, police teams will return to the Oak Park Station area for a three-day search targeting six previously unknown mine shafts. The operation will involve specialised equipment to scour the uncovered and unfenced shafts, which are situated between 5.5km and 12km from the Oak Park homestead.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Linda Williams stated that this phase is critical for the ongoing investigation. 'We are determined to explore every avenue in an effort to locate Gus Lamont and provide some closure for his family,' she said. 'These searches will either locate evidence or eliminate these locations from further investigation by the Task Force.'
Eliminating Possibilities in a Vast Search Area
This new effort follows a series of extensive searches that have so far failed to yield clues. On 31 October 2025, police drained a large dam on the property, eliminating the possibility that Gus had drowned.
The scale of the previous ground searches has been immense:
- A four-day ground search concluded on 17 October 2025.
- This followed an initial 10-day search involving SA Police, ADF members, SES volunteers, trackers, and local property owners.
- Ground searching has now extended to 5.5km from the homestead, equating to 95 sqkm searched on foot.
- With mounted units and Polair, the total area scrutinised is estimated at a staggering 470 sqkm.
Despite this colossal effort, police confirmed the ground searches have not located Gus or provided evidence of the direction he may have walked.
Ongoing Investigation and Family Support
Task Force Horizon continues to pursue multiple lines of inquiry. A police spokesperson confirmed that investigations have not uncovered any evidence of foul play at this stage.
The family of Gus Lamont have been described as continuing to cooperate fully with police and are being supported by a dedicated victim contact officer during this profoundly difficult time.
