Volvo Debuts First-Ever Van with EX30 Cargo Model for UK Fleets

Volvo has made a significant entry into the commercial vehicle market in the United Kingdom, launching its inaugural van model. The EX30 Cargo transforms the brand's compact electric SUV into a car-derived van specifically designed for business and fleet operators seeking to electrify their operations.

Conversion Creates Practical Commercial Vehicle

The new Volvo van is essentially a modified version of the existing EX30 passenger car. Through a second-stage conversion process, the rear seats are removed and replaced with a flat load floor and additional storage compartments. This adaptation results in a substantial load capacity of 1,000 litres and a payload of up to 390kg, making it well-suited for urban delivery services and light commercial applications.

Volvo has confirmed that both new and existing EX30 models can be converted to Cargo specification, with availability spanning model years 2026 and 2027. This flexibility allows fleet operators to transition to electric vehicles more rapidly without waiting for completely new model developments.

Two Variants with Enhanced Features

Volvo will offer two distinct versions of the EX30 Cargo:

  • Standard EX30 Cargo – The base model retaining the core characteristics of the passenger vehicle
  • EX30 Cross Country Cargo – Featuring increased ground clearance for more challenging terrain

Both variants maintain Volvo's renowned focus on safety systems and advanced in-car technology. The interior preserves much of the EX30's familiar cabin design, separated from the cargo area by a protective bulkhead. Practical enhancements include wider-opening rear doors for improved accessibility, additional lighting in the load bay, and extra mounting points beneath the floor to secure cargo effectively.

Powertrain Options and Performance Specifications

The EX30 Cargo offers multiple powertrain choices that mirror those available in the passenger model:

  1. P3 and P5 rear-wheel-drive configurations with outputs ranging from 150bhp
  2. P8 all-wheel-drive version delivering up to 428bhp

For Model Year 2027, Volvo plans to introduce a new P3 Extended Range version that prioritises efficiency, offering an impressive range of up to 300 miles on a single charge.

Trim Levels and Standard Equipment

The EX30 Cargo is available in Core and Plus trim levels, with the Cross Country variant positioned at the premium end of the range. Even the entry-level Core model comes generously equipped with:

  • Volvo's comprehensive Safe Space Technology suite
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Google-based infotainment system
  • Parking assistance features
  • Rear-view camera

Plus trim models add further enhancements including Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving capability, Harman Kardon premium sound system, heated seats and steering wheel, and digital key functionality. Exterior upgrades on higher specifications include larger alloy wheels and contrasting roof finishes.

Strategic Focus on Business Market

Jack Munford, Head of Fleet at Volvo Car UK, commented on the strategic launch: "While Volvo is traditionally recognised for passenger vehicles, we understand that business owners and fleet operators increasingly demand the quality, safety, and technological innovation that defines our brand in a compact commercial vehicle format. This recognition drove the development of the highly practical EX30 Cargo."

Pricing for the EX30 Cargo begins at £36,010 on the road for the P5 standard range version. Sales will be conducted exclusively through Volvo's dedicated fleet sales channels, underscoring the company's targeted approach to the commercial vehicle sector.
