Railway Hero Returns Home After Harrowing Station Attack
A London North Eastern Railway (LNER) staff member, hailed for saving multiple lives during a violent incident, has finally been discharged from hospital. Samir Zitouni, 48, had been in a critical condition since November 1 after sustaining multiple injuries in a mass stabbing at Huntingdon railway station in Cambridgeshire.
A Critical Ordeal and Road to Recovery
The railway employee suffered serious wounds during the attack earlier this month, requiring extensive medical care. An LNER spokesperson confirmed his discharge, stating that thanks to the dedicated efforts of NHS medical staff, Mr Zitouni is now well enough to continue his recovery at home. This marks a significant milestone for the staff member who was critically injured while intervening in the incident.
Family Gratitude and Plea for Privacy
In a heartfelt statement, Mr Zitouni's family expressed their profound gratitude for the overwhelming public support received. They said they were 'very touched by all the kind words about Sam's brave actions on the night of the attack.' While overjoyed to have him home, the family emphasised that his recovery journey is far from over. They have now requested privacy to focus on caring for him as a family unit during this challenging period.
The community and his colleagues at LNER continue to celebrate his bravery, which undoubtedly prevented further tragedy at the Cambridgeshire transport hub.
