A helicopter pilot who died in a mid-air collision in Buckinghamshire on Friday has been named as Captain Mike Green. The incident involved a helicopter and a two-seater Cessna 152 plane, killing all four occupants.
Captain Green, a senior instructor with Helicopter Services at Wycombe Air Park, was described by colleagues as “one of the best” instructors in the country. Former colleague Captain Phil Croucher said: “He was probably the most well-respected instructor in the country. He achieved a very high position within the army as an instructor. If you wanted a training instructor there’s no one more highly qualified.”
Green, who learned to fly in the army, was in his 60s and is survived by his partner and family. He was training a student on a beginners' course when the helicopter collided with the Cessna. The helicopter had been airborne for 15 minutes after departing Wycombe Air Park, flying at around 1,000 feet before disappearing from radar just after noon.
The Cessna was reportedly flown by an instructor with a student from Buckinghamshire New University on board. Police and air accident investigators are examining the crash site near the Waddesdon estate. Superintendent Rebecca Mears of Thames Valley Police confirmed that all four victims were men, with two in each aircraft. Formal identification is ongoing, and families have been informed and supported.
