Peugeot has unveiled a mid-life update for its 408 fastback crossover, with a significant focus on advanced lighting technology and cabin refinement. The revised model, revealed on Friday 9 January 2026, stops short of mechanical changes but introduces a sharper visual identity intended to boost its premium appeal.
A High-Tech Glow-Up
The most striking update is the debut of illuminated Peugeot lettering across the rear tailgate, a first for a production model from the brand. This is integrated into a full-width glossy black strip and is complemented by the brand's signature three-claw LED lights, now fitted as standard across all versions. At the front, a glowing lion badge features on higher specifications, linked by a new horizontal LED strip.
Peugeot has also redesigned the daytime running lights, which now consist of three slim, slanted LED claws on each side that also function as scrolling indicators. The main headlamp units have been repositioned lower in the bumper and are available with either full-LED or matrix-LED technology. Notably, the front proximity radar has been discreetly hidden behind the central badge.
Refined Cabin & Unchanged Powertrains
Inside, the familiar i-Cockpit layout remains, centred around a compact steering wheel, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch central touchscreen. The focus here is on improved material quality, with new fabrics, Alcantara, genuine aluminium, and Nappa leather available on higher-spec models. GT Exclusive versions gain a new 3D digital driver display.
Under the skin, the mechanical package is carried over. The fully electric E-408 uses a 207bhp motor and a 58.2kWh battery, offering a quoted maximum range of up to 283 miles. It supports 120kW DC rapid charging, enabling a 20-80% charge in around 30 minutes, and gains new features like battery pre-conditioning and vehicle-to-load capability.
The plug-in hybrid variant pairs a 176bhp petrol engine with a 123bhp electric motor for up to 53 miles of electric-only urban range. A mild-hybrid option with a 141bhp petrol engine also remains. Practicality is unchanged, with boot space ranging from 536 to 1,611 litres.
Market Position & Availability
With its new Flare Green exterior colour, which shifts in different lights, and fresh wheel designs, Peugeot aims to strengthen the 408's position as a distinctive, style-led crossover. The car will be covered by the Peugeot Care package, including an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty (covering the E-408's battery). UK pricing and exact on-sale dates are set to be confirmed closer to its launch later in 2026.
