A festive day turned to tragedy in Waterford as a man in his 40s lost his life following a collision between an e-scooter and a car on Christmas morning.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 11am on December 25th at the junction of Manor Hill, also known as Bunker's Hill, and Hennessy's Road in Waterford city. The rider of the e-scooter, named locally as Alan Walsh from St John's Park in Waterford, sustained critical injuries in the impact.
Emergency services rushed the father-of-two to University Hospital Waterford (UHW), but despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the car involved, an 80-year-old man, was also taken to UHW for treatment. His injuries are understood to be non life-threatening.
A Community in Mourning
Alan Walsh, who worked at O'Sullivans Bar and Restaurant, is survived by his two children, Sean and Ava. His passing leaves behind a large and grieving family, including his parents Esther and Tommy, siblings, and extended family members.
A neighbour paying tribute recalled the fond memories, stating: "Having grown up next door to him, I'll always remember the laughs we had. Thinking of you all during this incredibly difficult time."
