A significant incident has led to the closure of a major motorway in Yorkshire, with emergency services including an air ambulance rushing to the scene.
Motorway Closed Following Serious Collision
The M62 in East Riding of Yorkshire is closed westbound between Junction 35 at East Cowick and Junction 34 near Whitley. The closure, which began on Friday, January 9, was necessitated by a collision, substantial debris, and a hazardous oil spillage on the carriageway.
Emergency Response and Traffic Management
To facilitate the emergency response, the eastbound carriageway was temporarily blocked to allow an air ambulance to land at the location. All eastbound lanes have since reopened, but the westbound closure remains in force. Humberside Police are in attendance at the incident, and traffic officers from National Highways are on site to manage the resulting disruption and assist with recovery operations.
Ongoing Situation and Travel Advice
This remains a live incident. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. National Highways has confirmed that updates on the situation and expected reopening times will be provided as more information becomes available from the emergency services working at the scene.
