The M25, the UK's busiest motorway, was closed on Saturday afternoon following a multi-vehicle collision that required an air ambulance to land. Emergency services attended the scene between junctions 23 and 25 on the anti-clockwise carriageway.
A four-mile queue developed, causing delays of up to 60 minutes. National Highways East confirmed the closure was necessary to allow the air ambulance to airlift an injured person. The clockwise section between the same junctions was also temporarily closed but has since reopened.
After approximately two hours, three lanes were reopened, leaving only the outside lane closed where the collision occurred. Traffic flow returned to normal shortly after. National Highways East later reported that the injury was "not as serious as initially feared," based on information from the scene.
This incident follows a recent lorry overturn in Surrey and a crash near Heathrow Airport, both causing significant disruption on the M25. Motorists are advised to plan ahead before travelling on the motorway.
