2026 Jeep Recon: 642bhp Electric Off-Roader Promises 250-Mile Range
Jeep Reveals 642bhp All-Electric Recon Off-Roader

Jeep has officially unveiled its most ambitious electric vehicle to date: the all-new 2026 Jeep Recon. This fully electric off-roader marks a significant step in the brand's electrification strategy, promising to deliver the traditional Jeep wilderness experience with zero emissions.

Uncompromising Electric Performance

The American car manufacturer has revealed impressive performance figures for its new electric Trail Rated SUV. The Recon will produce 642bhp and generate 840Nm of instant torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds. Despite its rugged capabilities, Jeep estimates the vehicle will achieve up to 250 miles on a single charge.

Production is scheduled to begin early next year, with initial launches in the US and Canada before the model arrives in UK showrooms. Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf described the Recon as "a bold step forward for the brand" that maintains Jeep's core values of "freedom, adventure and capability" while embracing an electric future.

Serious Off-Road Credentials

Jeep has engineered the Recon to meet its rigorous Trail Rated standards, ensuring it can handle extreme off-road conditions. The vehicle features standard all-electric four-wheel drive and the familiar Selec-Terrain traction management system with five dedicated modes.

For the most challenging terrain, the US and Canada-exclusive Moab trim includes a specialized Rock mode and a 15:1 rear final drive ratio for maximum torque multiplication. The front axle can disconnect to improve efficiency during regular road driving.

The Recon's off-road specifications are substantial: 9.4 inches of ground clearance, a 34-degree approach angle, 34.5-degree departure angle and 23.5-degree breakover angle. Additional features include low-speed hill control systems and locking differentials to reinforce its adventure-ready credentials.

Design and Technology Innovations

Visually, the Recon blends classic Jeep design cues with modern EV styling. The upright front end features the signature seven-slot grille, now illuminated with LED lighting. The vehicle stays true to Jeep's open-air heritage with removable doors, rear quarter glass and swing gate glass, plus optional dual-pane sunroof or Sky One-Touch Power Top - all operable without tools.

Inside, Jeep has focused on both practicality and advanced technology. The cabin offers 1,866 litres of cargo space with rear seats folded, complemented by an 85-litre front trunk. The dashboard features a horizontal design with passenger grab handle, accessory rail, and modular door panels with removable straps.

Technology represents a significant leap forward with more than 26 inches of combined screen space, including a 12.3-inch digital cluster and 14.5-inch horizontal touchscreen - the largest ever fitted to a Jeep. The system runs the latest Uconnect 5 software with Amazon Alexa integration, improved mapping, and Jeep's Trails Offroad app providing pitch and roll data.

The premium Alpine audio system has been specially redesigned with speakers positioned beneath the seats to ensure optimal sound quality even when the doors are removed.

With the 2026 Recon, Jeep aims to demonstrate that electrification can not only coexist with off-road excellence but potentially enhance it, offering enthusiasts a zero-emission vehicle capable of tackling the most challenging environments while providing the open-air freedom synonymous with the brand.
