A groundbreaking remote airport terminal is set to launch in Framingham, Massachusetts, on June 1, offering travelers flying out of Boston's Logan International Airport the ability to complete TSA screening and check luggage nearly 25 miles away from the airport.
How the Logan Airport Remote Terminal Works
The Logan Airport Remote Terminal, located at 19 Flutie Pass, allows passengers to check in for their flights, drop off their bags, and undergo security checks before boarding a dedicated shuttle bus that transports them directly to their airside gate at Logan. This initiative aims to provide a more seamless and convenient travel experience, reducing the stress often associated with airport lines.
Pilot Phase: Limited to Delta and JetBlue Passengers
During its pilot phase, the service will be limited to Delta Air Lines and JetBlue passengers traveling on flights scheduled between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Hourly shuttle buses will run from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m., with shuttle tickets priced at $9 each way. The Framingham site also offers approximately 400 parking spaces for $7 per day, which is significantly cheaper than parking rates at Logan Airport.
Modeled After Existing Systems
The remote terminal concept is modeled after similar systems operated by The Landline Company in other major U.S. cities. By allowing passengers to bypass traditional airport check-in and security procedures, the service aims to streamline the travel process and enhance overall passenger satisfaction.
This first-of-its-kind remote terminal in the United States marks a significant step forward in airport innovation, potentially paving the way for similar facilities at other major airports across the country.
