Out-of-Service Bus Demolished in Bridge Strike
A Bee Network bus had its roof completely torn off after a dramatic collision with a low railway bridge in Bolton on Friday evening. The shocking incident occurred at approximately 7:45pm on Weston Street in the Burnden area, south of the town centre.
Miraculous Escape for Driver
In a fortunate turn of events, the bus was out of service and being driven back to the depot at the time of the crash. A spokesperson for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) confirmed that there were no passengers on board and that the driver did not suffer any serious injuries.
The bridge involved is clearly marked as a low bridge with a height of 3.7 metres. The force of the impact was so severe that the entire roof of the vehicle was ripped clean off, scattering debris across the road.
Emergency Response and Road Closures
Greater Manchester Police promptly attended the scene, closing the road to facilitate the safe removal of the badly damaged bus and the clearance of debris. Photographs from the location show the extensive damage, with the roof lying separately on the roadway.
TfGM has stated that they are supporting the police with their immediate response and will work closely with the operator, Go North West, to investigate the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
