The World's Largest McDonald's Now Resides at Disneyland Paris
In a significant development for fast-food enthusiasts, the McDonald's located at Disneyland Paris has officially claimed the title of the world's largest McDonald's restaurant. This monumental establishment reopened in February, surpassing the previous record-holder in Orlando, USA, known as Epic McD.
A £17 Million Ultramodern Marvel
The flagship restaurant, situated in Disney Village, represents a substantial investment of €20 million, equivalent to approximately £17 million. Spanning an impressive 2,000 square metres, the three-story facility can accommodate up to 600 guests simultaneously. Designed as an ultramodern flagship, it seamlessly integrates the enchanting atmosphere of Disney Village with cutting-edge, high-tech service solutions.
Notable architectural and entertainment features include a three-story indoor play area specifically designed for children, a panoramic glass elevator offering stunning views, and even a curly slide that allows for playful movement between floors. To manage the anticipated high volume of visitors, the restaurant employs 23 self-service kiosks, a dual kitchen system for efficiency, and five dumbwaiters to streamline operations.
Sustainability and Unique Culinary Offerings
Emphasising environmental responsibility, the building incorporates 250 square metres of solar panels, a 120-square-metre living wall, and dedicated green roof spaces aimed at promoting local biodiversity. Beyond its size and sustainability efforts, this McDonald's offers a unique menu that sets it apart from standard outlets.
Patrons can enjoy exclusive items such as the Croque McDo, a sandwich available only in France, and special sundaes topped with pistachio sauce. These offerings provide a distinct culinary experience tailored to the location.
Visitor Experiences and Operational Challenges
Despite its grandeur, visitor feedback has highlighted some operational challenges. Social media influencer Benji, known as @benji_esca on Instagram, shared his experience, describing the restaurant as absolutely massive but noting that the food prices were quite high. He reported queuing for approximately one hour to place his order, ultimately opting for a McDonald's CBO (Chicken, Bacon, Onion) due to budget constraints, which he described as not bad.
Reviews on platforms like Tripadvisor corroborate these observations, with frequent mentions of extreme wait times ranging from 30 to over 60 minutes, even after the modern renovation. Common complaints also focus on issues such as cold food and disorganised service, though it remains one of the more budget-friendly dining options within Disneyland Paris.
The Previous Record-Holder: Epic McD in Orlando
Prior to this development, the world's largest McDonald's was the Epic McD location in Orlando, USA. This 19,000-square-foot, three-story facility featured an extensive array of unique menu items, including woodfire-baked customisable pizzas, pasta bowls like tortellini or linguini with Alfredo sauce, Philly cheesesteaks, omelettes, and Belgian waffles.
It also boasted a 100+ game arcade where players could earn tickets on a McFun card for prizes, a 22-foot tall PlayPlace, a 30-foot tall illuminated Ronald McDonald statue at the entrance, a bakery case with whole cakes and ice cream bars, and even a fish tank. Service innovations included touch-screen kiosks and table service via trackers, allowing guests to relax while their food was prepared in an open kitchen.
McDonald's has been contacted for comment regarding the new Paris location and the feedback from visitors. The opening of this massive restaurant marks a notable milestone in the brand's global expansion, blending entertainment, technology, and dining on an unprecedented scale.
