A British holidaymaker has been sentenced to prison after a violent altercation aboard a Taylor Swift-themed Royal Caribbean cruise turned into what authorities described as a "sustained and brutal" attack.
Dulcie White, 43, was celebrating on the 'Swiftie' cruise when an argument with another passenger escalated into physical violence. According to court documents, the incident occurred during the cruise ship's journey from Florida to the Bahamas.
The Shocking Assault
Prosecutors revealed that White attacked the victim multiple times, including punching her in the face and head. The assault continued even after the victim fell to the ground, with White allegedly kicking her while she was defenceless.
"This was a sustained and brutal attack on a defenceless woman," the prosecution stated during sentencing proceedings. Medical reports indicated the victim suffered significant injuries requiring treatment.
Legal Consequences
White pleaded guilty to battery charges and has been sentenced to time in prison. The judge emphasised the seriousness of assault occurring in the confined environment of a cruise ship, where victims cannot easily escape their attackers.
Royal Caribbean crew members intervened to stop the assault and White was confined to her cabin until the ship could dock in Florida, where local authorities arrested her.
Cruise Industry Response
The incident highlights growing concerns about passenger behaviour on themed cruises, where alcohol consumption and heightened emotions can sometimes lead to violent outbursts.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson stated: "We have zero tolerance for violence of any kind. The safety and security of our guests and crew is our highest priority."
The Taylor Swift-themed cruise had attracted hundreds of 'Swifties' celebrating the artist's music with themed parties, karaoke events, and costume nights before the celebration turned violent.
