Former world No. 26 Camila Giorgi has surprised the tennis world by taking up a new role as an interviewer at the ATP 250 event in Buenos Aires, almost a year after her sudden retirement amid tax evasion allegations.
The Italian, who quietly ended her playing career in May 2024, was accused of fleeing Italy after reports emerged that authorities were investigating gaps in her tax returns. Giorgi denied all claims during a TV appearance in October, insisting her family was unaware of any tax issues and that she did not leave the country to avoid questioning.
Giorgi has now joined forces with IEB+, the title sponsor of the Argentina Open. She shared a photo of her accreditation on social media and posted videos interviewing players such as Sebastian Baez and Guido Pella, asking them about their favourite matches and banking apps.
Her lawyers previously stated that Giorgi had no intention of evading investigations and that she would return to Italy to provide explanations. In November, Giorgi revealed she had moved to Argentina and is in a relationship with Argentine politician Ramiro Marra.
