A tourist in Spain has shared a video showing the reality of 'sunbed wars' at his hotel, as guests sprint to secure sunbeds before breakfast. The footage, posted on TikTok by a user named Anthony, shows hotel guests racing across the courtyard to the pool area, throwing towels and bags onto sunbeds to reserve them, then leaving without sitting down.
Morning rush caught on camera
Anthony filmed the scene from his hotel room balcony. In the video, guests can be seen running to the sunbeds, placing their belongings, and then heading inside for breakfast. None of them actually used the sunbeds they had reserved. Off-camera, Anthony can be heard telling the guests to "get a grip" and tutting in disapproval.
In the caption, he wrote: "No, it's not sped up. That's how fast they run." The video comes as another hotel in Cyprus went viral for its method of preventing sunbed wars.
Online reactions divided
Commenters on the post shared Anthony's disapproval, with many saying hotels should not allow guests to reserve sunbeds with their belongings. Others questioned why people spend money on holiday to lounge by the pool instead of exploring. One person asked: "Why do people pay all that money to go on holiday just to sit by a pool and sleep all day?" Another added: "Can't imagine being this bothered over a sunbed. I'd be too busy being out and about enjoying my holiday."
However, some defended the guests, arguing that if hotels provided more sunbeds, there would be no need to race. They claimed that people fight over sunbeds because there aren't enough to go around, so it should be up to the hotel to provide more spaces. Several commenters also said it's up to holidaymakers how they spend their time, with one writing: "Some people just want to relax, lie down, chill, and bathe in the pool. Not everyone wanna walk every day and see things the whole day."
Another agreed, saying: "Why can't we let people do whatever they want? There's nothing relaxing about walking around in the baking heat. That's why, when I'm on holiday, I usually book excursions and have days like this in between, because lying down is relaxing. I just came back from safari, and the end of my holiday was a resort stay. And thank god, it gave me time to relax and recover."
