Davie Irons Can't Wait for Babysitting Duty After Amy's News

Footballing legend Davie Irons can’t wait for babysitting duty after his daughter Amy announced she is expecting her first child – but he has one wish for his new grandson’s future career.

The proud dad says he would prefer the latest addition to the family to take up golf or tennis rather than football.

BBC Scotland presenter's announcement

BBC Scotland presenter Amy, 35, revealed she is expecting a baby boy with her partner, Elliot, 38, during yesterday’s edition of BBC Radio Scotland’s The Saturday Show.

And former Dunfermline, Partick Thistle and St Johnstone player Davie, from Dumfries, couldn’t be happier.

Davie's reaction and hopes

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Mail, Davie, 65, said: “I’m absolutely over the moon for Amy and Elliot. I’m delighted for them, as the whole family are.

“Knowing it’s a wee boy is great, too.

“Career-wise, the way football is going, I’d maybe prefer they were golfers or tennis players. I’ll be desperate to do some babysitting.

“We have a wee grandson who is 10 months old and I babysit for him, so I’ll definitely be babysitting for my next one as well.”

Amy's joy and World Cup challenges

Amy said: “I’m delighted to be preparing for the most important job I’ll ever do.

“I am expecting a baby. It is a boy. I am continuing the family tradition. I have four brothers and lots of boy cousins, so naturally it was always going to be a boy.”

Football-mad Amy, who was stateside to host the BBC’s coverage of Scotland’s first World Cup in 28 years, admitted keeping her pregnancy under wraps during the tournament had its challenges.

She said: “The hardest thing was going through the World Cup and having to come up with the worst excuses why I would never be coming to the pub.

“I wanted to get through that first trimester and get to the scan and make sure things were OK.”
