Holidaymaker in Tears for Entire Tenerife Trip After Luggage Lost on Shuttle
Tenerife Holiday Ruined as Luggage Lost on Shuttle Bus

One holidaymaker endured a devastating start to her Tenerife vacation when her luggage disappeared during a shuttle bus transfer, leaving her in tears for the entire ten-night trip. Jo Knox, who traveled with her husband and in-laws on January 13, watched her bright red suitcase being loaded onto the Canary Shuttle bus, only to find it missing upon arrival at their hotel.

The Disappearing Act

Photographic evidence taken by her brother-in-law clearly shows the distinctive red case in the shuttle's luggage hold against Tenerife's sunny blue skies. However, when the group reached their accommodation, the suitcase containing all of Ms Knox's clothing and essential medication had vanished from the vehicle.

Failed Attempts at Resolution

Ms Knox insists she monitored passengers disembarking at previous stops and saw nobody carrying her noticeable red luggage. When the travelers questioned the shuttle driver about the missing case, they claim he simply shrugged his shoulders, prevented them from checking the boot, and drove away.

Immediate calls to easyJet proved fruitless as Ms Knox couldn't recall the shuttle company details, and the travel agency offered no assistance. The following day, an easyJet representative initially told her the case was "closed" and asked her to move away, though later accompanied her to a local police station to request CCTV footage from the airport coach stand.

Financial and Emotional Toll

The practical consequences were severe. Ms Knox had to purchase essential clothing and source diabetes medication from a local pharmacy. While easyJet offered compensation of up to €75 (£65) across three days, the holidaymaker claims her actual expenses reached approximately £2,712.

Of sixteen receipts submitted to easyJet, only twelve were reimbursed, totaling just £231 in compensation. The emotional impact was equally significant, with Ms Knox describing ten nights of distress that overshadowed what should have been a relaxing holiday.

Legal Action Pursued

Ms Knox has now initiated proceedings through the small claims court, seeking reimbursement for her and her husband's holiday costs, the value of her luggage, and an additional £500 for what she describes as "severe distress" caused by the incident.

An easyJet spokesperson responded: "We're sorry to hear about Joanne's missing luggage on her recent holiday to Tenerife. Our team in resort worked hard to assist in resolving the situation as quickly as possible. As this matter is now subject to legal proceedings, it wouldn't be appropriate to comment further at this time."

The Daily Mail also approached ALSA, owners of the Canary Shuttle service, for comment regarding the luggage disappearance during their transfer operation.
