A sombre mood has fallen over Universal Orlando Resort after a guest died following a medical incident on one of its most popular water attractions.
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday afternoon on the Stardust Racers slide at the resort's Volcano Bay water park. According to official statements from Universal Orlando, the guest experienced a "serious medical emergency" while on the attraction.
Emergency services were called to the scene immediately. The individual was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital but was, tragically, pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Response and Investigation
In a brief statement, a Universal Orlando spokesperson expressed their condolences: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our guests and our hearts go out to their family and friends."
The iconic water slide has been closed indefinitely while the incident is investigated. Local authorities and representatives from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which oversees ride safety at permanent parks in the state, are involved in the process.
About the Attraction
Stardust Racers is a high-speed, multi-lane mat racing slide located within the Volcano Bay park. Riders descend a 300-foot-long course, lying face-down on a mat, reaching significant speeds as they compete against others.
Universal Orlando has stated that the attraction will remain closed pending the outcome of the full investigation. The park has a strong safety record, and such fatal incidents are extremely rare at major established theme parks.
