As winter sets in, Britons seeking a dose of vitamin D can find plenty of sun-drenched destinations less than six hours away. From the balmy beaches of Egypt to the volcanic landscapes of Tenerife, these spots offer warm escapes without the long-haul price tag.
Egypt’s Hurghada enjoys highs of 22°C in winter, with direct flights from the UK under six hours. The resort offers family-friendly beaches and the Makadi Water World water park. Meanwhile, Tenerife in the Canaries basks in 23°C and eight hours of sunshine, with hiking in Parque Nacional Las Cañadas del Teide a popular activity.
Morocco’s south-west coast averages 20°C in winter, with Marrakech offering souks and riad hotels. Further afield, Cape Verde reaches up to 26°C, with golden sands on Sal island and a vibrant nightlife in Santa Maria. The flight time is just under six hours.
Madeira, the Portuguese island, sees 19°C in February, perfect for hiking Pico Ruivo or exploring Funchal. Valletta, Malta, offers 16°C and Baroque architecture, with a mere three-hour flight from the UK. These destinations promise a welcome break from winter gloom.
