British woman found dead on Greek island of Symi

The Greek island of Symi has become the centre of a mysterious and tragic investigation after the body of a 73-year-old British woman was discovered. Michele Ann Bourda, a tourist from the UK, was found dead in a rocky area near Pedi beach on Sunday, 16th June.

Authorities were alerted after Ms. Bourda was reported missing by staff at her hotel. She had failed to return from a walk, prompting a widespread search operation. Her body was subsequently located by a group of volunteer firefighters.

Initial reports from Greek media suggest the area where she was found is particularly challenging terrain. The local mayor, Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, described the region as 'very rough and rocky', noting that the high temperatures would have made any trek extremely arduous.

While the exact cause of death remains undetermined, the local coroner has suggested that the elderly tourist may have tragically succumbed to the intense heat. However, an official investigation is underway to confirm the circumstances that led to this devastating outcome.

A spokesperson for the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed they are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.
