An 11-year-old British girl has died after being found unresponsive in a hotel swimming pool while on holiday in Fuerteventura, Spain. Francesca Mae Blease, from Crewe, Cheshire, was discovered in the pool on August 7, an inquest heard.
She was taken to a hospital in Gran Canaria, where her life support machine was switched off on August 8, coroner's officer Paul Downey said. Coroner Victoria Davies opened an inquest on Wednesday, noting there was an unnatural cause of death.
A full inquest into Francesca's death is scheduled for January 27. The tragedy is the latest in a series of incidents involving British children in Spain this summer, including the drowning of two siblings in Salou earlier this month.
