A British tourist is fighting for her life after breaking her back in 24 places following a fall from a hotel balcony in Pattaya, Thailand. Beth Klug, from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, plunged from the fourth-floor balcony of a 22-storey hotel in the early hours of March 15.
Paramedics found the heavily tattooed holidaymaker moaning in pain on shrubbery. She had landed on a concrete plant box and was unable to move her arms. A hotel security guard reported hearing a loud sound and discovering her crying for help.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the cause of the accident. A police report is required for her travel insurance to cover treatment and repatriation. Friends in the UK are raising funds to support her medical care.
Beth's friend Kim Lyall said: 'She has insurance, but they need the police report before they start paying. She's in a lot of pain. She can't move her arms at all. They shattered.' Another friend, Anna Mohammed, added: 'Her back is broken in 24 places, she's unable to use her hands, she has severe injuries.'
The British embassy has been involved in expediting the process. Beth remains in a hospital in Pattaya, where she is receiving treatment for her serious injuries.
