Liam Anelay, 28, from Liverpool, died on 28 January 2026 while travelling in Thailand with friends, an inquest has heard. At the time, he was employed as a production line operator and lived south of the city centre.
The inquest at Gerard Marjella Courthouse in Liverpool was told that Mr Anelay was riding a moped to meet his friends in Phuket when a stationary car performed a U-turn. The driver was reportedly unaware of Mr Anelay's approach and remained at the scene, cradling him until emergency services arrived.
Mr Anelay was taken to Chalong Hospital, where he was pronounced dead that afternoon. He sustained multiple fractures including to his skull, ribs and legs. The cause of death was recorded as multiple injuries sustained in a road traffic collision.
Area coroner Helen Rimmer concluded the death was the result of a road traffic collision. She said: 'Liam died on the 28 January, 2026, in Thailand. Liam was travelling on a moped in Thailand when he was hit by a car that was completing a u-turn. ... Liam suffered multiple injuries as a result of the road traffic collision.' She extended her condolences to his family.
In a tribute on social media, Mr Anelay's mother Christina wrote: 'My baby boy please keep shining down on me, until we meet again.' His cousin Jason Ding also paid tribute, describing him as a 'gentleman'.
