Alton Towers Resort has delighted fans by offering a sneak peek at its highly anticipated new rollercoaster, which will be themed around the beloved animated series Bluey. The attraction, officially named Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies!, is scheduled to open in spring 2026, marking a significant expansion of the popular CBeebies Land area.
World's First Bluey Rollercoaster
This exciting development represents the world's first rollercoaster dedicated to the Bluey franchise, elevating the show's presence alongside other CBeebies favourites such as Peter Rabbit and Hey Duggee. While visitors can already enjoy meet-and-greet opportunities and live stage shows featuring Bluey and her family, this new ride promises to deliver an immersive experience that brings the cartoon's playful spirit to life in a thrilling new way.
Themed Around a Fan-Favourite Episode
The rollercoaster's name draws inspiration from the memorable season one episode Grannies, where Bluey and her sister Bingo dress up as mischievous elderly ladies named Janet and Rita. In that episode, the characters cause delightful chaos throughout their home, learn to floss, and even manage to crash their car, with their signature cry of "Here come the grannies!" signalling the start of their playful antics.
A teaser image released by Alton Towers shows Bluey and Bingo dressed in their granny costumes, with the grannies' car leading several rollercoaster cars in what promises to be a fun-filled adventure. Natasha Spence, Events Director of Live Entertainment at BBC Studios, commented on the development, stating: "We know that whenever the Grannies come out to play, it is a fan-favourite moment for those that love the show. We are excited that the energy of these much-loved characters is being brought to life in Bluey’s first-ever coaster at Alton Towers Resort – home to CBeebies Land."
Enhanced Bluey Experiences at the Resort
Beyond the rollercoaster, Alton Towers is expanding its Bluey offerings to create a comprehensive experience for families. The live stage show will continue at the Big Fun Showtime area, where children can meet characters like Bingo, Bluey, Bandit, and Chilli for photos after performances. Additionally, the resort is adding more Bluey-themed accommodations to the CBeebies Land Hotel.
Immersive Accommodation Options
The new Bluey rooms are meticulously designed to replicate the Heeler family's colourful home, complete with family pictures adorning the walls. These rooms can sleep up to five people, featuring a dedicated children's area with bunkbeds that mirror Bluey and Bingo's bedroom, creating an authentic sleepover experience. Even the bathrooms incorporate Bluey themes, adding extra fun to bath times for young visitors.
For larger families, Bluey suites accommodating up to seven people are also available. These suites include separate sleeping areas for children and a spacious themed playroom where kids can imagine they're on a playdate at the Heeler house. Guests staying at the CBeebies Land Hotel enjoy access to various activities and entertainment, such as evening kids' discos, with all stays including a full English breakfast buffet each morning.
Anticipation Builds for Spring Opening
While specific details about the rollercoaster's official opening date and further ride specifications are yet to be announced, the resort has confirmed that more information will be released in due course. This addition is expected to significantly enhance Alton Towers' appeal as a premier family destination, combining the thrill of a rollercoaster with the charm of one of television's most cherished children's programmes.
The integration of Bluey into Alton Towers' attractions reflects the show's enduring popularity among both children and parents, offering a unique opportunity for families to engage with the characters in a dynamic, real-world setting. As spring 2026 approaches, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a standout addition to the UK's theme park landscape.
