Barry Manilow Announces New Album Following Health Battle and Concert Cancellations

Legendary singer Barry Manilow has shared major news with his fans, just weeks after revealing a "very depressing" health update that forced him to cancel multiple concerts. The 82-year-old music icon, who has been open about his recent lung cancer diagnosis, has announced the release of his 33rd studio album, titled "What A Time".

Health Struggles and Concert Cancellations

Following his diagnosis, Barry Manilow was compelled to cancel a series of concerts, including his prominent Las Vegas residency, to concentrate on his recovery. At the time, he described a visit from his surgeon as "very depressing" but remained optimistic about returning to the stage soon. However, his doctor advised additional rest, cautioning that while Manilow might be mentally prepared to tour again, his body was not yet ready. "You won't make it through," the doctor warned, leading to further postponements.

Exciting New Music Announcement

Despite these health challenges, Manilow has now delivered exciting news to his supporters with the announcement of new music. The album, "What A Time", is set for release on June 5, featuring the lead single "Sun Shine", co-written with Gary Barlow, which is already available. This marks Manilow's first album of predominantly original songs since 2011's "15 Minutes".

Album Details and Collaborations

The new record includes 13 tracks and showcases collaborations with notable artists such as singer Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, nine-time Grammy winner Dave Cobb, and co-writers Bruce Sussman and Adrienne Anderson. According to his label, the album blends Manilow's signature melodic grandeur with fresh textures and stylistic turns, ranging from classic torch songs to R&B flourishes, heartland rock touches, and gospel-inspired crescendos.

Fans have eagerly responded to the announcement, with one commenting, "Finally, LOOK AT ME NOW is getting released on an album!!" Another added, "This album is a dream come true for so many fans," while a third praised, "What a Time we are still having." The album is available for pre-order on CD and vinyl, and for pre-save on streaming platforms.

Upcoming UK Tour and Career Highlights

Coinciding with the album release, Manilow is preparing for a UK tour, with tickets on sale for dates in June at venues including London's O2 Arena, Glasgow's OVO Hydro, Cardiff's Utilita Arena, and others. This follows his record-breaking achievement in 2023, when he surpassed Elvis Presley's record of 636 shows performed in Las Vegas with his residency at the Westgate casino and resort.

Throughout his illustrious career, Manilow has achieved seven UK top 10 albums, including a number one with "Barry Live In Britain", and one UK top 10 single with "I Wanna Do It With You". Since his first hit in the UK with "Mandy" in 1975, he has sold over 85 million records worldwide and received 15 Grammy Award nominations, winning one.
