Newcastle United winger Antonio Cordero is set to return to Spanish Segunda division side Cadiz on loan for the 2026/27 season, with a swift agreement reportedly reached between the two clubs.
Loan deal agreed despite interest from other Spanish sides
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Cordero expressed a strong desire to remain with his hometown club for another campaign. A quick deal has been struck between Newcastle and Cadiz, despite interest from other Spanish teams. The 19-year-old made 21 appearances and scored three goals during his first loan spell with Cadiz last season.
It is understood that Newcastle are covering a significant portion of the winger's wages to facilitate the move. Cordero has already rejoined the Cadiz squad and met the club's new president, Christian Septien, ahead of the upcoming season.
Cordero's journey from Malaga to Newcastle
Cordero joined Newcastle United from Malaga in July 2025, having impressed in his first season of senior football with six goals and seven assists. At the time of his move, he said: "It's truly an honour to be here, truly a pleasure. I am a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it."
He was one of the few signings made under former sporting director Paul Mitchell, who described Cordero as an 'exciting talent' with 'a lot of potential'.
Previous loan spells and career revival
After just one month at Newcastle, Cordero was sent on loan to Belgian side Westerlo, where he struggled to make an impact in the Jupiler League. His return to Spain with Cadiz revitalised his career, and the opportunity to work under manager Imanol Idiakez—who made him a key part of his plans last season—was a major factor in his desire to return to the Andalusian club.
