Police are investigating after a video emerged showing a woman allegedly directing racist abuse at a doorman outside a Rochdale nightclub. The footage, shared online, captures the interaction between a clubgoer and a security guard outside the Ko Ko Lounge on Packer Street.
Incident on Saturday Evening
According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday evening (October 17). In the short clip, a woman can be seen making monkey gestures at the security guard, who is a black male. She appears to refer to him as a 'big black monkey' while repeatedly proclaiming 'look at the state of you'.
The video was first shared by Platinum Security Events, who provide staff to the nightclub. A caption accompanying the video reads: "Normally, we wouldn’t share footage of incidents involving security staff. However, on this occasion, we feel it’s important to raise awareness of the abuse door supervisors can face simply for doing their jobs.
Security Firm's Statement
The caption continues: "We fully understand the nature of the job. We recognise that our staff will encounter challenging situations, verbal abuse, threats and sometimes physical confrontations. But just because abuse is expected, doesn’t mean it should be accepted.
"Why should anyone have to go to work and be subjected to this level of abuse from a member of the public? Door supervisors are there to keep customers, staff and venues safe. They deserve the same dignity and respect as anyone else in their workplace.
"Nobody should have to tolerate this kind of treatment simply for doing their job."
Police Enquiries Ongoing
Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they have received a report of the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
