Mercedes launches all-new GLA electric variant futuristic

Mercedes has unveiled the all-new GLA, a compact SUV arriving later this year with a fully electric option for the first time. The vehicle features a bold illuminated grille with 158 micro-LEDs that produce a light show when unlocking, accompanied by futuristic audio from the bonnet.

Electric Range and Charging

The electric GLA offers over 400 miles of range per charge, enough for a London to Edinburgh journey. Mercedes states that over 100 miles can be added in the time it takes to get a coffee, and 167 miles in just 10 minutes on a suitable fast charger.

Interior and Technology

Inside, a Superscreen dominates the dashboard, comprising a 10.25-inch instrument display and a 14-inch central screen, plus a separate 14-inch display for the front passenger. Over 40 apps are available, including YouTube and Disney+, with DAZN coming soon. An optional Burmester 3D surround sound system enhances audio.

The MBUX Virtual Assistant, powered by Google and ChatGPT, allows natural conversation for queries, recommendations, and journey planning. Self-parking capability is included.

Design and Comfort

Customizable ambient lighting and a panoramic glass roof with SKY CONTROL let occupants switch between transparent and opaque glass, or display a starry sky with 172 built-in lights. The electric version gains a front boot "frunk" for extra storage.

Safety and Pricing

Standard safety equipment includes eight cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The new GLA is available to order from £45,400. An AMG line package adds design elements like black spoiler lip and exclusive 20-inch alloys.

“The new GLA is designed to excite customers every day. Drawing on 140 years of innovation, we’ve built the most expressive GLA ever," said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG. "Combined with a newly designed interior that brings even more space and comfort, we’ve further elevated the appeal of what is currently already our best-selling compact model.”
