Manchester United are preparing to pursue a £30 million deal for Crysencio Summerville if Marcus Rashford departs the club this summer. The Dutch international, who impressed at the World Cup, is seen as an ideal successor to Rashford, who has spent the last 18 months on loan at Barcelona and Aston Villa.
Summerville available after West Ham relegation
West Ham United's recent relegation from the Premier League has made Summerville available for a cut-price fee. According to The Guardian, the Hammers are willing to cash in on the former Leeds United attacker provided their £30 million valuation is met. The 24-year-old managed only five goals and two assists in a disappointing campaign as West Ham endured their first season in the Championship in 14 years.
Rashford's uncertain future at Old Trafford
Marcus Rashford is scheduled to report back to Carrington following his post-World Cup holiday. The academy graduate is expected to integrate into Michael Carrick's squad, though his long-term future remains in doubt. A rift with former manager Ruben Amorim sparked a brief loan spell at Aston Villa, followed by a full season at Barcelona, where he helped the Catalan club win La Liga. However, Hansi Flick's side chose not to activate the buyout clause in his agreement.
The 28-year-old forward has two years left on his contract but earns approximately £17.5 million per year, a major obstacle for potential suitors. United's priority remains selling the attacker, but his wages complicate a permanent transfer.
World Cup performances and other transfer activity
Summerville enjoyed a standout World Cup with the Netherlands, scoring twice and registering two assists in four appearances before their surprise round-of-32 elimination by Morocco. He was unable to convert his penalty during the shootout defeat.
Meanwhile, United have already missed out on Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham Hotspur after the Portuguese midfielder left West Ham. In response, Carrick's side secured the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to strengthen their midfield with top-flight experience.
Rashford will return to United after England's World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina. Thomas Tuchel's men are set to play France in the third-place playoff on Saturday, meaning Rashford could report back a day earlier than planned.
