Manchester United are prepared to submit an offer for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni if the Spanish club signals a willingness to sell the 26-year-old France international this summer, according to reports.
United's midfield search intensifies
United have already agreed a £35 million deal with Atalanta to sign Ederson earlier this summer but remain in the market for another central midfielder. The club missed out on Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, both of whom joined Tottenham Hotspur, prompting United to explore alternative options.
Tchouameni is among the midfielders on United's shortlist, though earlier this year there was no indication that Madrid would be open to selling him. However, according to The Athletic, Madrid are now understood to be open to a major sale in midfield to finance a squad rebuild under manager Jose Mourinho.
Interest in Tchouameni and other targets
United continue to maintain their interest in Tchouameni and are willing to submit an offer if he is made available. The report adds that United have held talks to ascertain Madrid's stance on selling Tchouameni before the end of the summer transfer window. Tchouameni joined Madrid from Monaco in 2022 for a deal worth €80 million (£68.3 million) plus €20 million (£17 million) in add-ons, and still has two years remaining on his contract.
In addition to Tchouameni, United have held talks with Chelsea over a deal for Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos. Chelsea value Santos at £50 million, a price United are not prepared to meet. United also remain interested in Alex Scott, but Bournemouth insist the 22-year-old is not for sale.
