Digital auction site eBay experienced a significant outage that began on Sunday and continued into Monday, causing widespread disruption for shoppers and sellers across its platform. The technical difficulties prevented sellers from listing products via the site's API, and some users reported problems when attempting to pay for items.
eBay Acknowledges Issues
eBay acknowledged the problems, describing them as "intermittent technical issues". The company stated that its teams were actively working to restore full functionality to the platform. Despite these efforts, the outage persisted for an extended period, frustrating many users.
User Reports Spike
Downdetector, a service that monitors website outages, recorded more than 1,300 user reports of the eBay disruption at its peak on Sunday evening. The high number of complaints indicates the scale of the problem, which affected both buyers and sellers.
Hacktivist Group Claims Responsibility
An Iran-linked hacktivist group known as 313 Team has claimed responsibility for the outage, alleging they launched a cyberattack against eBay. However, this claim remains unverified, and eBay has not confirmed any security breach. The company continues to investigate the cause of the technical issues.
As of Tuesday, eBay was still working to resolve the remaining problems, with some users still reporting access difficulties. The company has advised users to stay tuned for updates as they work to restore normal service.
