EA Sports FC 27 is set to release on September 25, 2026, according to a leak from Dealabs' billbil-kun, who has a flawless track record with retail leaks. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.
Backward Compatibility Continues
Unlike this year's Call of Duty title, which skips PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, EA is maintaining support for older consoles. The inclusion of the original Switch is particularly surprising given the launch of Switch 2 last year, which already offered feature parity with other versions. EA's decision suggests that locking the game to current-gen consoles would reduce player numbers and limit revenue from sales and microtransactions.
Pricing and Premium Edition
Dealabs also reports that a premium edition of EA Sports FC 27 will offer early access from September 17, over a week before the standard release. The standard edition price remains at £69.99, the same as last year. Physical copies for PlayStation and Xbox will include the game on a disc, a notable detail as Sony plans to phase out physical game support after 2027.
Console Price Hikes
The continued support for older consoles comes amid rising costs for current-gen hardware. The PlayStation 5 now costs £519.99, up from its £449.99 launch price. The Xbox Series X is set to increase by about £100 on August 1, with digital and physical models expected at £549.99 and £599.99 respectively. The Switch 2 may also see a price rise of about £35 to £429.99, though UK prices are unconfirmed.
Market Context
EA's strategy contrasts with other publishers pushing players to upgrade. GTA 6 is exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X, and Call of Duty 2026 skips last-gen consoles. By retaining support for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, EA aims to maximize its player base and microtransaction opportunities.
