Cammy Devlin: From Boo Boy to Ibrox Hero, New Signing Vows to Win Over Fans

New Rangers signing Cammy Devlin has admitted he was once a target for the Ibrox boo boys during his time at Hearts, but now he is relishing the prospect of having the same fans roaring him on. The 28-year-old Australian midfielder completed a free transfer to the Scottish giants, signing a two-year deal with the option of a third, becoming Derek McInnes' sixth signing since taking over as Rangers boss.

Devlin's Troubled Past at Ibrox

Devlin, known for his tenacious style, often found himself at the center of heated exchanges during Hearts' encounters with Rangers. His aggressive approach made him a frequent target for the Ibrox faithful, particularly after Hearts' 1-0 victory over Rangers in September 2025, which briefly disrupted the Old Firm's dominance. Despite Hearts' eventual failure to sustain their title challenge, Devlin's clashes with Rangers fans left a lasting impression.

Speaking for the first time since his move, Devlin said: "I've played against Rangers for so many years now, and now to be walking out at Ibrox and to be able to call that my home feels quite surreal and really special. I'm so happy to get it over the line."

A New Chapter Under McInnes

Devlin credits McInnes for revitalizing his career. Under the Rangers boss at Hearts last season, Devlin enjoyed a standout campaign, coming close to winning the club's first league title since 1960. An ankle injury mid-season halted his momentum, but he remains confident in his abilities. "The manager was a massive part of why we were successful," Devlin said. "He gave me confidence, a sense of freedom to go out there and express myself. When he gave me the call and let me know that this move was possible, I was excited."

Devlin is also reuniting with former Hearts teammate Lawrence Shankland, who joined Rangers earlier in the window. "I know he's really excited, along with his whole family," Devlin said. "We're really good mates and we share the same ambition. We're hungry people that want to be successful in our careers and we feel there's no better place to do that than at Rangers."

Winning Over the Doubters

Despite the skepticism from some Rangers fans about his quality, Devlin is determined to prove them wrong. "I think when you come to a place like this where everything's magnified and everything's a lot bigger, there's a lot more expectation on you to perform," he said. "That's healthy. You're never going to come to a place like this and have it easy."

He added: "To the fans, I can just promise that I'll give my all and I just want to win. I've come here because I feel like Rangers is a club that's used to winning and deserves to win. That's something that me, along with the staff and the players, are going to try and do."

Devlin's Ambition and Commitment

Devlin, who has been in Scotland for several years, understands the magnitude of the club. "I know exactly the size of the club. I know what it means to so many people and I'll be playing as if I was one of you," he said. "I'll be doing everything in my power to get Rangers the success they definitely deserve."

The midfielder is currently on a post-World Cup break but will return to find familiar faces at Ibrox, including McInnes and Shankland. With his combative style and determination, Devlin hopes to turn former foes into fervent supporters.
