B&M is selling a compact gadget designed to address common household issues, including mould and damp. The budget high street store regularly impresses shoppers with its range of affordable homeware and electronics.
Available to view online and buy in stores, shoppers can get the Blaupunkt Compact Dehumidifier 1L at B&M for £25. The device was originally on sale for £30 but now has a 16% discount as part of its 'Air Care' department.
How the dehumidifier works
B&M says the "mains powered" Blaupunkt Compact Dehumidifier "removes excess moisture from the air, combatting damp, condensation, mildew and musty odours". It extracts up to 300ml of excess moisture per day and comes with a one-litre water tank featuring an in-built automatic shut-off when full. The gadget also has several colour LED mood lights, including purple, blue, red, yellow and green, which can change or remain constant.
Air purifier also available
B&M is also selling a Blaupunkt Digital Air Purifier for £39. In the product description, the store says: "The Blaupunkt Air Purifier removes up to 99% of airborne allergens as small as 0.3 microns, including grass pollen, ragweed pollen, household dust, dust mite debris, pet dander, smoke and odours through its three-stage filtration system: sponge filter, HEPA filter and activated carbon filter." It also includes an ioniser feature that creates a static charge around airborne contaminants to help them fall from the air.
Benefits of dehumidifiers
A dehumidifier can help dry laundry by pulling moisture from the air and speeding up evaporation from wet clothes. It prevents indoor areas from getting damp, reduces unpleasant odours, and is more energy-efficient than a regular tumble dryer. By removing excess moisture, dehumidifiers prevent the growth of mould, mildew, and dust mites. However, they do not filter out airborne pollutants such as dust, smoke, or VOCs, so many homes use a dehumidifier alongside a specific air purifier for thorough cleaning.
Dust mites and mould spores thrive in high humidity, so lowering moisture levels starves them. Reducing damp, humid air also eliminates musty odours common in basements or bathrooms. Lower humidity makes the air feel cooler and can ease breathing for people with asthma or respiratory problems.
