China's new £100,000 electric car, the DENZA Z9 GT built by BYD, is equipped with revolutionary FLASH Charging technology that can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in just five minutes. The car offers charging speeds of up to 1,500kW, filling the battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, enough for 323 miles.
Charging in Extreme Conditions
The FLASH Charging system even works in extreme weather, with the Z9 GT able to recharge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes at -30°C. The car's 122kWh battery is expected to deliver up to 373 miles of electric range on a single charge.
Performance and Pricing
The fully electric model accelerates from 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 167mph. It starts at £105,000, while the plug-in hybrid (DM) variant starts at £95,000. The hybrid uses three motors, a 63.82kWh battery, and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, offering 126 miles of pure EV range and up to 500 miles combined. It does 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and tops out at 161mph.
Orders and Availability
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said: “FLASH Charging’s ability to make our second-generation Blade Battery ready in five minutes, full in nine minutes, and to add just three minutes in cold weather sets a new standard for the future of premium mobility.” Order books are open, with first customer deliveries expected in the UK by the end of 2026.
