Witchcraft has undergone a modern rebrand, with spells and magical paraphernalia now widely available on the online marketplace Etsy. From love charms to career protection, the platform is awash with sellers offering enchantments for a price.
For £8.20, a 'powerful career protection' spell promises job security and a 'magical shield' around one's professional life. Cast by seller MoonstoneMysticMagic, buyers receive a personal message detailing the spell's performance and a digital guide for staying aligned afterwards. Another seller, Pendragon Spells, offers a Blessing Ritual with instructions for wellness.
Although Etsy forbids the sale of spells, customers instead purchase spell 'kits'—PDF files with instructions—for £7.99. The listings warn that products are 'solely for entertainment purposes'. Other offerings include an Attract New Love spell for £7.55 and a Dream Home Spell for £8.20.
Witchy supplies abound: hand-forged iron nails for £1 each are traditionally buried under doorsteps to ward off evil spirits. Oyster shell powder (£5) and witch bells (£8) offer protection against negativity. Red salt (£3.99), blended with rose and hibiscus during a full moon, is used in love magic. Cauldrons start at £15, and 'build your own' brooms cost £20. Ouija boards are also available for under a fiver.
