TGJones has confirmed the closure of its store in Southend-on-Sea, with a closing-down sale now underway. The branch, which also houses the main Post Office, is expected to cease operations on September 26.

Shoppers can find discounts of up to 30% across the stock until the closing date. A spokesperson for TGJones said: “As part of our work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Southend store will close.
“We appreciate this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers and the local community. Our priority now is on supporting those affected colleagues while continuing to serve our customers until the store closes. We would like to thank our colleagues in Southend for their valued contribution to TG Jones.”
The nearest branches for locals will be on Sutton Road and Hamlet Court Road.
Restructuring and store closures
WHSmith high street stores were sold last year and rebranded as TGJones as part of a £76million deal. The owner of TG Jones, Modella Capital, gained approval for a company-wide restructure on July 1, with up to 150 stores at risk of closure.
A TGJones spokesperson said that "the survival of this iconic 234-year-old business is our imperative". They also said that the restructuring would protect most of the retailer’s store estate and build a stronger business. It blamed "highly challenging traditional conditions" for the forced closures as well as higher costs from Government policies and the Iran war.
