Riyadh Airport Struck Again After Deadly Attack Kills 13

A projectile has hit a passenger terminal at a major airport in the latest attacks on civilian infrastructure by a rebel group. The projectile struck the international airport in Riyadh on Sunday, October 12, just one day after a missile hit the same terminal and killed 12 people, the Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen said.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for both of the attacks as well as others. Saudi authorities reported injuries in the latest attack on the King Khalid International Airport complex for terminals 3 and 4, which serve domestic flights.

Airport closed since Saturday's missile attack

The airport has been struck four times in the past five days. It has been closed since the missile attack on Saturday - the deadliest in the nation since the Iran war started. More than 300 people were injured, with some in critical condition.

The attacks on the hub marks the latest escalation in the Middle East conflict, which poses a threat to global supplies and prices of oil, commercial shipping through a crucial alternative waterway to the Strait of Hormuz, aviation throughout the region as well as civilians.

US weighs joining fight against Houthis

US President Donald Trump has said he is weighing up joining the fight against the Houthis. There was no White House comment Sunday.

The latest strike in Riyadh came shortly after the Houthis said the airport in the rebel-held Yemeni capital of Sanaa had been struck again and blamed the Saudis. On Sunday night, the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV channel reported further strikes on Sanaa, blaming Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has not commented on the strikes.
