Tesco has announced a major change to its Clubcard loyalty scheme, allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to join for the first time in its 31-year history. The new teen-focused card gives younger shoppers access to Clubcard Prices and the ability to collect points, which can be converted into vouchers for money off in-store shopping.
However, teenagers cannot sign up independently. Instead, they must be invited by a parent or guardian who already holds a Clubcard account. The 'invite to Clubcard' option is available in the settings of the latest Clubcard app. Once invited, the teen can use the card digitally via the Tesco app or website, but not online – only in-store or at Tesco petrol stations.
Clubcard members aged 16-17 will enjoy the same benefits as adults, including discounted prices on selected items (excluding age-restricted products) and the iconic Tesco lunchtime meal deal for £3.85. Tesco Group membership and loyalty director Shama Wilson said: 'We are delighted to be giving younger customers access to Tesco Clubcard for the first time, and we have no doubt that it will prove popular with 16 and 17-year-olds.'
